Review
The strongest aspect of Leon Dagga's self-titled debut album on Powerbroker
Entertainment is the strong production and smooth, funked out groove of the
project. The beats are more than funky enough to carry the evolving rhymes of
Mr. Dagga. Reppin' 'the Bridge" AKA Bridgeton, New Jersey Leon delivers rhymes
that don't break any new ground but do manage to compliment the phat tracks that
he's given to work with.
Highlights include the head noddin groove of Real Ryme Rocka with its loopy,
liquid butter feel and catchy hook. This is one of the cuts that best showcase
the potential that Leon obviously possesses. The Upliftment shows off another
side of his seasoned persona. It's here that Leon Dagga offers insight to the
depth of his mental. The track is a laid back, introspective discussion of the
ills of a new millennium reality. This one is hittin. Simple as that. It goes
hand in hand with the entertaining and positive message that he sends to his
daughter with Keep Ya Mind Strong. This debut is solid and doesn't suffer from
too many uneven moments. Mic Inflammation is very indicative of what to expect
from Leon Dagga. Here's a cut that's already garnered scattered airplay on the
national scene. The formula used for Leon's debut is a sound one- good delivery,
tight hooks and phat beats for days. Leon shouts beat maker extraordinaire Mr.
Vorhees on the self-indulgent Leon Dagga ****!
*. It bounces as the rest of the effort does.
Alright, so y'all are asking- should I buy this album? As far as
PhillyHipHop.com is concerned it gets our stamp of approval.
